A real sensation is a look at the potential future of the renowned and award winning stand-alone editing system: A technically fully operational design study of a Casablanca system with the most modern, revolutionary features. The aim of this presentation at this year's IFA in Berlin is that customer feedback will help in deciding which features will be integrated in the series production.
 
The study represents the whole bandwidth of ideas of the Casablanca development team. Software improvements and hard ware feature will go hand in hand in this new system.

The study displays a completely new and complex housing case concept. The unit is more narrow, yet taller than a VCR. The front and top are both made of heavy, background printed glass. The opening panels of the drive trays are motorized and can be opened and closed electrically. A noble display shows the system’s operational status – on a lighted background using white, graphic elements.

The exchangeable drive already featured in the Prestige system will be integrated and will be accompanied by an additional removable drive that can be carried on a belt: A portable hard-drive featuring a Firewire (I-Link) connector that saves data from a camera while actually recording and hence makes the transfer of video from tape to the Casablanca hard-drive redundant. The rechargeable, battery powered unit can be inserted into the Casablanca study and editing can begin. A very interesting feature - in particular for professional users.

A third, static hard-drive serves as a back-up medium: By pressing a sensor-driven field on the glass panel, the system copies the current project to this (very large) hard-drive. The idea behind this is that only hard-drives are fast enough and have a sufficient capacity to enable effective project back-up.

A modern main board with the fastest available processor makes for an extremely high rendering speed, which is further supported by a first in the Casablanca system: Background rendering. Each single pause during non-rendering intensive work phases is used for automatic rendering. In most cases, this means no waiting times. This is also a big advantage over hardware-based systems: Future effects, no matter which kind, can be supported by the power of the CPU and can take advantage of its speed - without hardware restrictions.
